Immature embryos of ten linseed genotypes were cultured on MS basal medium with 13 different combinations of growth hormones. Based on their in vitro response in preliminary experiment, two medium combinations were selected for the final experimentation. The results showed highly significant differences among genotypes, culture media and genotypes x media interactions for callus initiation, morphogenic callus formation and plantlet regeneration. The inoculation medium MS3DB (3.0 mg/l 2,4-D + 0.5 mg/l BAP) was proved superior callus initiation was observed in genotypes C.3 (89.50%) followed by C.1 (85.24%) and J.1 (85.19%) and morphogenic callus formation in genotype C.2 (77.55%) followed by J.17 (56.64%) and C.3 (53.63%). Maximum number of plantlets were obtained from immature embryos of genotype C.2 (183 plants) followed by J.17 (120 plants) and j.23 (89 plants), when morphogenic callus cultures were subsequently transferred onto regeneration medium MSRg2 (MS basal medium + 0.4 mg/l BAP + 0.4 mg/l IAA + 15.0 g/l sucrose + 7.5 g/l agar). Phenotypically normal plants were obtained after hardening in green house.
