Abstract

Cytochrome P450 51 family (CYP51) belongs to the cytochrome P450 superfamily and takes part in the synthesis of sterol in plants. However, there is a lack of information on the expression pattern of the members of this family. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the structure and expression pattern of CYP 51 gene family. In this research, a bioinformatics exploration of 65 CYP51 sequences in plants was performed, including multiple alignments and phylogenetic analysis using MEGA 7. CYP51 genes are divided into two subfamilies, G and H. CYP51G were more conserved than CYP51H genes. Additionally, comparative expression analysis of CYP51 genes in dicots and monocots revealed that CYP51 genes are preferentially expressed in the roots and tend to be induced or suppressed by abiotic stresses. According to the conserved motifs study, three motifs were common in 34 CYP51G subfamily genes. Our results uncovered two conserved motifs in CYP51G3 genes, TLI/VXSRCL and GL/FXSE. This investigation provides a bioinformatics background for the enzyme in plants, and suggests CYP51 genes as candidates for genetic engineering studies to produce tolerant crops to different abiotic stresses.
