Abstract

Mesua ferrea L. is a long lived and drought tolerant plant that has been reported for its contribution in several health beneficial aspects. Since time immemorial, the parts of the plant are being used as a traditional therapeutic system in the field of medicine for treatment against various ailments. The plant possesses various phytocompounds as active ingredients that can ameliorate the disease pathology in common disease syndromes. M. ferrea has been reported to have various properties, like anti-diarrheal, anti-allergic, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial etc. Improved cognitive ability and enhanced conciliating potency was observed with the use of the plant. This review cover research articles from 1967 to 2020, retrieved from Pubmed, Wikipedia, Google Scholar and Researchgate by using “Mesua ferrea” as the search term (“all fields”) with no specific time frame setting for the search. In the present review, we have highlighted Phytocompounds present in different vegetative parts of M. ferrea with special emphasis on its anti-microbial attribution.
