Abstract

Coast is the interregnum between the ocean and the hinterland. It is the portion of land sandwiched
between large water body and land. It refers to the portion of land surface influenced by marine
process. It is demarcated by the downward extent of tides, waves and wind-blown coastal dunes. The
landform referred to as coastal areas are created by a variety of fluvial processes The notable ones
among these processes are the wave and tide regime, climatic variations, nature of the beach,
geology and anthropogenic activities. These elements are working together to produce the current
coastal land forms through the process of erosion, transportation, deposition and accretion.
