Abstract

The disease, death and decay co-exist with life. The evolution of nomadic man from prehistoric times to modern society has always been full of struggles to overcome the diseases that they suffer from. In prehistoric times, people used to explore the surrounding materials like mud, plant and animal products for curing diseases. Initially, it would have been a hit and trial method. When any method was successful, it became folklore and passed to the next generation in particular communities. This community knowledge became traditional knowledge as it was practiced for many generations. Plants are commonly available resources for the societies, so the exploration of plants was much more seeking for a relief from any kinds of diseases. Fossil records indicate that humans started to use plants as medicine in the last 60,000 years [1,2,17].
