Abstract

The study used a descriptive evaluation of the current clinicobiologic patterns and contemporary diagnosis options in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), the updated identification of the management approaches and treatment strategies in this chronic myeloprolifertive neoplasm. CML represents a clonal tumor of the hematopoietic system, which results from the malignant transformation of the pluripotent stem cell, while maintaining the differentiation property to all cell lines. Therapeutic strategies that endorse the existing immunological approaches include donor lymphocyte infusions, which continue to be used, often in combination with tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKIs), in patients with repeated relapses following the allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The targeted treatment with TKIs remains the treatment option of choice for CML patients regardless of their age, and may be preceded by the short-term singleagent chemotherapy with hydroxycarbamide for cytoreduction.
